Dear Friends and Community Members,

As we look ahead to 2026, the Maine Outdoor Wellness Center continues to honor Roy Varney’s vision of creating accessible outdoor recreational opportunities for all residents of Turner and surrounding communities in central Maine. We’re excited to share our plans for the coming year and invite you to be part of our growth.

Our 2026 Initiatives

Expanded Youth Programming Building on the success of our elementary Nordic program, we’re launching a comprehensive year-round school program for children. This initiative will provide structured outdoor education experiences, introducing young people to skiing, hiking, biathlon, and environmental stewardship. By partnering with local schools, we aim to make outdoor wellness accessible to every child in our community, regardless of financial circumstances.

Continued Trail Development We’re committed to expanding and improving our trail network to serve Nordic skiers, hikers, and mountain bikers. Our 2026 plans include:

  • Enhanced grooming and maintenance of existing ski trails
  • Extension of woodland trail systems for year-round use
  • Improved signage and wayfinding throughout the property
  • Addition of beginner-friendly loops to welcome newcomers to outdoor sports

Facility Improvements To support our growing programs, we’re working toward:

  • Development of the kayak and canoe launch area
  • Continued progress on the biathlon range
  • Infrastructure to support our free equipment lending program
  • Enhanced gathering spaces for community events and educational programs

Why Your Support Matters

The MOWC operates entirely through the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors like you. Every contribution directly supports:

  • Free access to trails and facilities for all community members
  • Free equipment lending (skis, snowshoes, and more)
  • Youth programming at little to no cost to families
  • Trail maintenance, grooming, and development
  • Preservation of active farmland as recreational space
